Designing for a modern full-size SUV presents a unique challenge: balancing the inherent mass of the vehicle with a wheel that feels light, technical, and premium. With this concept, the goal was to lean into a sharp, architectural aesthetic that complements the clean lines of a charcoal grey body. The result is a complex split-spoke design that utilizes negative space to create a sense of lightness despite its substantial diameter. The core of the design revolves around a series of interlocking Y-spokes that branch out from a recessed center, forming a geometric star pattern. By thinning the spokes as they reach toward the barrel, the design achieves a look that feels both delicate and structurally rigid. The brushed gold finish provides a warm, sophisticated contrast to the cooler tones of the vehicle and the coastal environment. It is a finish that evolves with the light, moving from a deep bronze in the shadows to a vibrant, glowing gold under the direct sun. To add a secondary layer of dimension, the design features a polished silver outer lip. This two-tone approach helps define the edge of the wheel, making the gold center spokes appear even more prominent. The depth is a crucial element here; the significant concavity pulls the eye inward toward the center cap, emphasizing the three-dimensional nature of the machining. This depth is especially noticeable from a three-quarter view, where the sharp angles of the spokes transition into the deep, reflective barrel. When mounted on a vehicle with a rugged overlanding setup—including a roof rack and light bar—these wheels transform the overall presence. They shift the narrative from a purely utilitarian off-roader to a high-end custom build that feels at home in a variety of landscapes. The stance is assertive, filling out the wheel wells while maintaining the clean, upright profile of the chassis. It is about creating a visual anchor that demands attention without overwhelming the vehicle’s original character.
