Precision Track Series: Gunmetal Split-Spoke Concept

The design intent for this project was to create a wheel that perfectly bridges the gap between high-end technical engineering and raw track aggression. When dealing with a vehicle that has such a dominant presence on the circuit, the wheel needs to hold its own without distracting from the aerodynamic sculpture of the bodywork. The core of this concept is a refined split-spoke geometry, featuring five primary V-shapes that radiate from a deeply recessed center hub. This choice creates a skeleton-like aesthetic that emphasizes a lightweight feel while maintaining a very structural, grounded appearance. The finish is a critical element of the visual identity. I opted for a dark gunmetal with a subtle metallic luster. This specific tone works exceptionally well during the golden hour, as the shifting light catches the sharp edges and the recessed channels along the sides of each spoke. Unlike a standard black finish, which can sometimes hide the intricate details of the wheel face, this dark grey provides enough contrast to showcase the complex milling and the way the spokes taper as they meet the outer lip. It creates a sophisticated layer of texture that complements the vibrant red paint of the vehicle. From a profile perspective, the focus was on maximizing concavity. The spokes transition with a sharp, purposeful angle toward the center, which adds significant depth and enhances the vehicle's wide, planted stance. This depth creates a dynamic interplay of shadows, making the wheel look three-dimensional even at high speeds. When the car is in motion, the thin spoke structure allows for high visibility of the braking components, reinforcing the high-performance character of the build. The final result is a wheel setup that feels integrated into the car’s DNA, providing a sense of motion and technical precision that matches the intensity of a high-speed track environment. It is about achieving a balance where the wheels look like functional, high-end components born specifically for the pursuit of speed.
