Finding the Right Finish Took Longer Than Choosing the Wheel
AI Custom Design
by jia li
I knew exactly which wheel I wanted for my M3 Competition. The design had the perfect balance of sharp lines and clean proportions, so choosing the wheel itself was surprisingly easy. The hard part was finding the right finish. Browsing the Ready Designs gallery, I found a color that looked great on its own, but I wasn't sure how it would work with my Frozen-style light gray paint. Instead of guessing, I used See It On Your Car to preview the setup on my own car. That changed everything. The wheel looked fantastic, but the finish didn't create the contrast I was hoping for. It wasn't wrong—it just didn't feel like it belonged on this particular car. Rather than starting over with a different wheel, I opened AI Custom and kept the same design. I asked the AI to explore finishes that felt a little more refined and better suited to the body color. It generated several options, each with subtle differences in warmth, metallic depth, and surface texture. After a few rounds of fine-tuning, I finally found the one. The champagne tone became softer, the metallic finish looked richer, and the wheels complemented the body instead of competing with it. It was still the same design I fell in love with—just wearing the right color. Looking back, See It On Your Car helped me see the problem, and AI Custom helped me solve it. That's what made this setup feel truly personal.
